FRIDAY, JUNE 29
The exciting kick-off for the 2012 YMCA National Gymnastics Championships will be held Friday, June 29 at the Summerfest grounds on Milwaukee’s scenic lakefront. The opening ceremonies event will include an Olympic style march of all competing gymnasts along Milwaukee’s lakefront, special guest appearances, and a keynote speaker to get everyone in a celebratory spirit!
Stay after the ceremonies and continue to “feel the beat” at Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival. Summerfest is a Milwaukee summer entertainment institution, featuring the music industry’s hottest stars, along with emerging talent and local favorites. The 23,000 capacity Marcus Amphitheater, 10 additional stages, diverse selection of food and beverages, marketplaces and interactive exhibits are set against the Lake Michigan and downtown backdrop, creating a festival experience like no other.
ABOUT OPENING CEREMONIES
Opening Ceremonies will be held on the Summerfest Grounds at the BMO Harris stage, a brand new venue being built on the grounds. The stage has stadium style seating and is a covered venue. Our event stage will be closed to the public, so only our gymnasts, families and spectators with an opening ceremonies ticket will take part in the event.
Opening Ceremonies includes seating to watch the march-in, our program with guest speakers, vouchers for food and access to Summerfest Grounds for Friday, June 29. Other details for the program are still being finalized, but it will be a fun and festive way to kick off Nationals in Milwaukee!

LINE UP |
Gymnasts and coaches will line up at the north end of the Summerfest grounds in Urban Park. Gymnasts and Coaches must have their access pass in order to gain entrance onto the Summerfest grounds. Teams are encouraged to bring “Team Signs” to carry for the march along Summerfest’s Lake Walk.

SPECTATOR ENTRANCE

All spectators will be asked to enter into the Summerfest grounds at the south end of the park (detailed map coming soon). The South Gate entrance is closest in proximity to the BMO Harris Bank Stage where Opening Ceremonies will occur.
All spectators attending Opening Ceremonies must have the Opening Ceremonies ticket on hand in order to gain entrance into Summerfest. |
ABOUT SUMMERFEST
Summerfest 2012 will take place June 27 – July 1 and July 3 – 8, from Noon until Midnight and will be closed Monday, July 2. In 2012, The “World’s Largest Music Festival” and Milwaukee’s cornerstone summer event will celebrate its 45th Anniversary.
